Much better performance from the Flash player now. It’s playing VP6 encoded streams really well, but haven’t been able to check if it will play H264 streams – that’s a job for tonight. The BBC’s media player does work but neither bbc.co.uk/iplayer nor fullscreen work. I’ve stuck with my own player now as it looks much better in the PS3’s zoomed fullscreen mode (due to the BBC’s media controls not disappearing).

Appreciate your efforts on this! Really looking forward to getting the H264 streams working (hopefully!)
Can’t wait to try the H264 streams too. Shame BBC couldn’t get their at together to do native support, considering their massive budget!
Keep up th great work.
Speaking of which, the new page at http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/where_to_get_iplayer/ states “Sony PS3 support is in development.” Should be interesting to see what they come up with.
Just upgraded to 2.5 firmware and manged to get into your site for first time.
Sadly the video does not play, get message “sorry, this programme is not availalbe to play on the PS3″.
I can get the iplayerlist site work with streaming video, but like the look of your layout better hope its a simple fix.
Keep up the good work.
@Chris in about 3-4 years time.
I mean how diffucult is it to detect the PS3s browser useragent, and deliver compliant javascript? Clearly for the BBC it’s VERY diifcult.. If it were this diffucult to pay my licence fee, they would be breaking my door down…
I think their reasoning is that they want to do things properly this time around (the original iPhone and Wii offerings were far from perfect). Even I admit that the normal web interface is a little clunky to use with a controller or the PS3 remote control and that before Flash 9 was available, the browser wasn’t really up to showing the video at an acceptable level.
Maybe the recent upgrade to the PS3 will give them a poke in the right direction. The explicit mention of the PS3 on the iPlayer site when there’s no other “coming soon” devices, certainly bodes well
